New roof
A new installation leaves no room for error
Unlike a replacement, installing a new roof starts from bare framing: there is no old system to correct if a detail is done wrong, but equally no margin for error once the shingles are down. The membrane, the ventilation and the fasteners installed today will determine how your roof performs for the next 25 to 50 years.
At Toiture AM we work on new residential construction, home additions and flat-to-pitched roof conversions across Greater Montreal, coordinating with your general contractor if your project has one.

What to know about installing a new roof
The structure and framing underpin everything
Before shingles even enter the conversation, truss spacing, the plywood used and the planned slope all have to meet the Quebec Building Code. Framing that is undersized for the regional snow load eventually shows up as a sagging deck, no matter how good the covering laid over it.
Attic ventilation: the step most often skipped
A ventilation system balanced between the soffits and the ridge vents carries moisture out and prevents ice dams in winter. On new construction this is the ideal moment to size that ventilation properly from the start, rather than correcting it years later.
Why the vapour barrier changes everything
A self-adhesive vapour barrier laid across the whole deck, and especially at vulnerable spots like rakes and valleys, protects the structure even if shingles are later damaged by high wind. It is a layer of insurance we never leave out.
Coordinating with your general contractor
On a new-build project our crew fits into the overall site schedule: we come in as soon as the framing is ready to take the deck, and coordinate the municipal inspections required before the roof is closed up.
The best time of year to install
Although we install roofs year-round, the spring-to-autumn window lets the shingles' thermal adhesive seal optimally. Adapted methods exist for winter work, but they call for tighter planning.
Indicative price for a new roof installation
Cost depends mainly on the roof area, the number of slopes and the complexity of the framing (dormers, valleys, hips). An estimate given over the phone without a site visit is never reliable — we always measure in person before putting a number on a project.
$9,000 – $22,000
For a typical single-family home in Greater Montreal. Timeline: usually 2 to 5 business days.

Frequently asked questions — New Roof Installation
Clear answers to the questions we get asked most about this service.
How much does a new roof installation cost in Montreal?
Expect roughly $9,000 to $22,000 for a single-family home, depending on area, slope and the complexity of the framing. An on-site measurement is always needed for a firm number.
How long does a new roof installation take?
Most residential installations are finished in 2 to 5 business days, depending on size and weather. New-build projects are coordinated with the overall site schedule.
What is the difference between a new installation and a roof replacement?
A new installation goes onto bare framing with no old covering to remove — typically for new construction or an addition. A replacement means fully stripping an existing roof before the new system goes on.
Which materials do you recommend for new construction?
We install BP, IKO, CertainTeed and GAF depending on your budget and the look you want. For new construction we generally recommend an architectural shingle for its better wind resistance and 30 to 50-year service life.
Do you need a permit to install a new roof?
For new construction or an addition, the building permit usually covers all the work including the roof, and is normally obtained by the general contractor or the owner before work starts. We can point you in the right direction for your specific situation.
